Great Tips For Reducing Stress In These Really Crazy Times

ways you can relieve stress

From politics and social injustice to coronavirus and protests, it’s easy to feel stressed out, anxious and depressed these days. How can you help yourself feel better in this crazy world we are living in?

Dr. Alok Trivedi is a health, human behavior and national stress reduction expert. He is founder of The Aligned Performance Institute and author of the book ‘Chasing Success.’

Dr. Trivedi’s tips to help you feel better despite what’s going on around us:

1. Tune it out

It’s one thing to be informed about current events and what’s going on in the world. It’s something very different to be consumed by it. If you want to catch up on the news of the day then scan the headlines. There’s no need to spend hours in front of the TV or jumping from one website to another to stay informed.

2. Focus on your world

Stay more focused on what is happening in your own world. What are your kids doing right now? What is going on at work? What can you do to plan a fun night out with your spouse? Is there a family activity you can all engage in that’s fun and safe? Focus less on world news and more on the things that really matter most that deserve your full attention.

3. Focus on you

Make it a habit to spend at least 30 minutes each day focusing on yourself. Find a quiet spot and simply veg out, listen to music, do some slow breathing and muscle relaxation, journal or whatever helps you unwind and recharge. This should be a must-do every single day like eating breakfast and showering.

4. Exercise

It can’t be said enough: any form of physical activity that gets the blood pumping can help relieve stress and depression. Do something physical for at least 20 minutes each day, whether that’s going for a walk, playing ball with your kids outside, running, lifting weights, swimming or whatever.

5. Spend time with people who make you feel your best

There are some people in your life who make you feel good and bring out your best. There are also those people who do the opposite and drain you of your energy and leave you feeling stressed out and exhausted. Make sure your inner circle is filled with people who make you feel good about yourself and inspire you for greatness.

6. Get deep into conversation

We all usually have that one person in our life, whether it’s our partner or a best friend, who we can get into a deep conversation with. Intellectual stimulation makes us feel connected, helps us hyper-focus on one topic while forgetting all the junk going on around us, and has been shown to have positive effects on anxiety and stress.

7. Have more sex

Yes, for real! Sex doesn’t just feel good, it has so many positive benefits from relaxing us; relieving stress, depression and muscle tension; building confidence; burning calories; and connecting two people emotionally. There is nothing better for the mind and body than an all-natural orgasm.
